TiVo In Taiwan

(Thanks Pete!)

Never enough time…

  • Time Warner Cable kisses and makes up, will offer CableCARDs. (TiVoBlog)
  • Sirius video around the corner? (Orbitcast)
  • Ten HDTV myths. (PC World)
  • Radio Shack announces what we already know, currently selling TiVo. (Yahoo)
  • Digital Deck Media Connector reviewed. (PC Mag)

After 60 hours of voting… about 50% (myself included) believe we’ll see the S3 arriving in September or October, while over 15% have no faith in TiVo delivering this year as promised.

ZNF Poll
When will the S3 TiVo be released?

August (17) 9%
September (46) 24%
October (49) 26%
November (34) 18%
December (10) 5%
2007 (33) 17%

Heavy video downloads have joined CNET and Rocketboom on TiVo. Those with broadband-connected Series 2 units can subscribe to a weekly 5 minute humor segment. As with Rocketboom, I’m not particularly interested (I want movie downloads, and I’m willing to pay) — but if this is up your alley, subscribe via Showcases. Speaking of Showcases… I’d like to see a TiVo software update improve organization by adding a TiVoCast menu item while cleaning up the Music, Photos, Products, & More area.

TiVo Series3 Release Date Poll

TiVo, Inc has repeatedly stated the S3 would be released in the second half of 2006… and July is nearly behind us. So, when do you think they’ll be available?

Never enough time…

  • Microsoft Vista’s enhancements over XP MCE.  (Matt Goyer)
  • NBC not interested in TiVo’s new metrics. (MediaPost)
  • Hell freezes over, Metallica on iTunes. (CNN)
  • Netgear acquires SkipJam. (eHomeUpgrade)

Sling Expands Beta Program

The Sling folks are simultaneously expanding and consolidating their beta programs. As with TiVo’s betas, Sling is now recruiting a pool of applicants to be called up as needed. You can apply here.

VP Jeremy Toeman says: So, if you like the Slingbox and want to get your hands a bit dirty with us on upcoming beta programs, sign up now. As you’ll notice in the application, it is open to virtually anyone regardless of race, creed, sex, or operating system. We will use this as an ongoing program, and will pull people from the pool as needed. So you could hear from us next week, next month, or next year, depending on our needs at the time. For those of you who signed up to the Mac beta program, you might want to consider signing up here as well There won’t be any crossover, but it could get you slotted in for some future stuff.
