The TiVo "On Demand" Remote Giveaway

tivo-ondemand-remote

By way of the TiVo Community, I learned that, despite cessation of service, Charter-branded TiVo remotes live on.

And why this might matter to you is the handy On Demand button, in relation to Comcast’s completion of the TiVo Xfinity On Demand rollout to retail DVRs. Yeah, TiVo’s On Demand interface is still old school and you may not care for that Charter logo, but I’m betting one will be corrected and the other you’ll tune out. Which I why I reached out to my pals at TiVo retailer Weaknees to learn more.

The back story isn’t so interesting, but the team kindly offered up the pair of remotes we’re giving away. Entering is as easy as it gets — simply leave a comment if you want in. We’ll choose two winners at random in a few days. Should you fail to win, Weaknees has additional ebay inventory of new On Demand TiVo remotes for only $15 a pop. Good luck!

  1. Yes, these remotes will work with retail TiVo DVRs – including Roamio. The On Demand button itself will only be useful for retail TiVos in Comcast regions or with cableco rental TiVos like RCN.

  2. Oh how funny is this. A Charter remote for the Comcast On Demand system, and I live in Charter territory so I wonder what that button does…

  3. Guess I never realized there was a custom charter remote. I wonder how many variants of TiVo remotes are out there

  4. TiVo remotes seem to be pretty durable (can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the ‘clunk-clunk’ of a TiVo remote hitting the hardwood floor from couch-height). But, as stated above, you can never have too many remotes around just in case!

  5. One can never have to many remotes!. Would love to have this take over duty in my house.

    Thanks Dave

  6. My remote buttons are so worn out, if people come over I have to operate the tv because I know where the buttons are. A new remote would be nice!

  7. Will this work with the retail Premiere with Comcast Cable card installed (once I get the damn CC to work)? If so count me in to win!

  8. I truly enjoy your blog, Dave. Thanks for all of the Tivo and DVR news you and Mari provide on this site.

  9. Is this remote the same as Roamio remote other than the addition of On Demand button? Just curious.

  10. We are in major need of a replacement remote, the kids have dropped the one that came with our premiere XL so many times the panel fell off and the beam has been ripped out. It was a dual beam, no it’s a single worse we have to be in front of the TiVo to get a signal. I’m just lazy, so I load my app on my Windows 8.1 Lumia 521 “Tivo Command” just to control the thing. We are at our witz end on a debate if we are to get a Roku Streaming Stick or a ChromeCast. It seems sad, but I’m saving up my Bing Rewards to convert it to Amazon credits to aquire a replacement device.

  12. Boy could I use a new remote! Our puppy ate ours…twice! I didn’t know dogs liked TiVo this much! Fortunately, for round 3, I had a DirectTV version in a drawer which works with my Premiere but the puppy got ahold of it too but with a little surgery and duct tape, it lives again! Barely.

The kids are getting better about putting it away now that I have THREATENED them—with paying for a new one out of their own pockets. Ha! Take that! Meanwhile my suggestions we get one of the new $150+ Harmony remotes are met with hysterical laughter by my wife. I just don’t understand her sometimes…

We actually DO have Charter, so that remote would sure look perfect in our home. Will even send you photos of a happy dog having dined on TiVo engineering. Haven’t tried it myself, so can’t knock it. Looks delish…

  13. Of course, this remote will allow access to FIOS On Demand with my TiVo, no? If so, definitely count me in. Otherwise, never mind.

Also, glad to see Dave finally deciding these giveaways via Klout score…

  14. North East Ohio will be getting Charter if the Time Warner/Comcast buyout goes thru. Would be interesting to win.

  15. Scott Lewis and Jon the Heretic are the big winners! Stay tuned, we’ve got a real cool giveaway coming in August…
