TiVo Squashes Roamio & Mini Netflix Crasher

I was absolutely delighted when Netflix (finally) hit my TiVo Mini. Yet others weren’t quite as enthusiastic… as outputting video at 1080p/24 not only brought down the Netflix app, it also rebooted the Mini. Ouch.

Fortunately, TiVo responded in short order and has deployed an OS update to both the newly released Roamio DVRs and the Mini:

Two important fixes in this release:

  • reboots related to Netflix with 1080p
  • reboots related to Pandora

In other TiVo update news… CEO Tom Rogers indicated that they company is still on track for out-of-home Roamio Plus and Pro video streaming to Apple mobile devices come October:

We are trying to do some fine-tuning of it. So we will ready for next month. We wanted to release the Roamio in order to make sure that for the holiday reset at retail, it was available and everybody could understand what it does and soon that piece of equation would be lit up.

  1. I’m not considering a Roamio until Android is supported… and there were somewhat mixed messages at launch, but I think the bottom line was a few months after iOS out-of-home streaming was introduced Android would be made available. I believe All Things D (?) indicated early 2014.

  2. How about out-of-home for TiVo Stream? I currently have a Premier and will likely upgrade to a Roamio (standard, I need OTA since I don’t have cable). I plan to bring the Stream to the Roamio when that happens.

    Thanks!
