TiVo Retires Agnostic Mobile Web Scheduling

tivo-mobile

Looks as if TiVo has made the command decision to retire DVR management and scheduling via m.tivo.com. These web-based mobile features were originally introduced to the microsite back in 2008 … well before TiVo’s Android and iPhone apps hit the scene. Unfortunately, TiVo’s customer base runs more than those two platforms and some even prefer the efficiency of the (former) mobile site to the sluggish desktop rendition. Having said that, we imagine TiVo ran the stats and the usage numbers don’t support continued development.

In other discontinued TiVo news, the free version of TiVo Desktop is still available today… despite a June 5th end of life notice. But you better act fast.

  1. Drats!!! The mobile site has been my only option for use on my Blackberry Z10 smartphone. Crud, TiVo keeps falling further behind wherever I’m at with whatever I am using. Thanks for the update Dave.

  2. Yeah, I ran into this a few times recently. Oddly on the first screen you might click on “Current Customers” and then be prompted to download the iOS or Android apps. However, there’s also this:

Don’t have a smart phone? You can still schedule shows remotely on TiVo Mobile where TiVo Mobile is linked to m.tivo.com

With the latter being a hot link, which of course just takes you back to the first page rather than giving you any way to schedule recordings. Kinda dumb.

I always liked this page, as you say so much lighter than the full desktop version. And the iOS app I have to first wait for it to timeout searching for a TiVo on my local network before I get the opportunity to click on “Away Mode”. I guess I’ll just do that instead, but I liked the lightness of m.tivo.com myself.

    Oh well.
