The TiVo Lunchbox Giveaway

tivo-lunchbox

I was recently remindedĀ of a funĀ souvenir TiVo gave out to employees in honor of “Blue Moon” a few months back.

This Friday, March 30, 2012, will be a vacation day for TiVo employees. Why? Because it’s Blue Moon Day! The fourteenth Blue Moon day, in fact: Thirteen years since March 26, 1999, when the world’s first DVR shipped out to paying customers.Ā Today we had a special lunch here at our Alviso HQ. Everyone is taking home a TiVo lunch box and thermos to celebrate Blue Moon day.

So I reached out to TiVo for one of these limited edition lunchboxes to share with a lucky reader. And this lunchbox is truly extra special, featuring 2TB* of ad-skipping DVR goodness. ;) Entering this giveaway is as easy as it gets, simply leave a comment if you want in. (US residents in the lower 48 only, please.) Weā€™ll choose one winner atĀ randomĀ in a few days.

* No, there’s no hard drive. That was a joke.

  1. Snazzy. And to follow-upyour question on Twitter, Thermos is very weird, in that it’s both become genericized for vacuum-insulated bottles and a registered trademark of the Thermos company.

  2. That looks cool. We should start a Tivo Community forum thread guessing when the larger model of the thermos is coming out!! :)

  3. Good god. Surfin’ TiVo Mascot!

I’d give it a good home. I’d even read Inherent Vice out loud to it to keep it entertained. (And you’ve got my email if the dice fall my way.)

  4. Sure beats those plastic grocery bags I put my lunch in every day. Please consider the environment and give me the lunch box.

  5. By the time my kid would take this to school, Tivos would probably be obsolete – but I could still use it!

  6. My 5 year daughter loves the Tivo guy! Sometimes I purposefully reboot the Tivo just so she can see the startup video.

Either that or just use YouTube but that would make too much sense.

  7. “After literally dozens of (caseless) phones spanning fifteen years, I suppose it was inevitable Iā€™d do this one dayā€¦”

You need to get yourself a StarTAC

Genericized trademarks are an odd category. Thermos has been genericized in the US since 1963. Who knewā„¢?

  9. hellz-to-the-yeah!
My boy starts pre-school in Sept. He could be the coolest/geekiest kid in the cafeteria.

I’ll even cut his sandwiches with the Tivo cookie-cutter I have!

  10. My only problem would be, “which of my 5 children do I give it to?!” Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to use it. :-)
