Android Home Automation App On Tap (CEDIA)

Blake Krikorian, the guy who invented the Slingbox (a vision we shared for a time), has set his sites on home automation. Basically, what started out as a personal project to consolidate control of all his gear has evolved into a commercial offering. And his Crestron Android app, dubbed R2, will be on display at CEDIA this week.

What attracted Blake to the Android platform, as opposed to iOS, is the available high degree of software customization and true backgrounding abilities. Additionally, he gets to bypass the Apple gatekeeper. Not to mention he seems quite fond of the 7″ Samsung Galaxy Tab prototypes he’s been developing on.

The beta is progressing nicely, so Blake hopes to launch both a free and premium version ($99) in the Market as early as next month. Head on over to CE Pro for additional details… and perhaps a few gratuitous iOS potshots. ;)

  1. Microsoft…microsoft…microsoft…why is it that some guy is running circles around what you are doing when all you have to do is connect a few dots in order to be the king with people’s home entertainment and controls. #blowingit
