Boxee Getting its own Set Top Box

Popular HTPC software Boxee has found another way to spend some of that private equity money they’ve been getting.  After dicussing the concept awhile, Boxee announced their first (will there be more?) partnership with a consumer electric company to put Boxee into a television0-connected device. They aren’t saying much more than that, but plan to show mockups of the box and share more details at their Boxee Beta unveiling event in NYC on December 7th.  My question is this:  Will there ever be a PVR functionality built into Boxee?  Without that, it will continue to be relegated to the niche portion of the home entertainment market.

  1. If I can slap a cable card in there and start recording stuff in HD with Boxee’s interface and social recommendation capabilities, it could be a major hit. Otherwise, I’ll just plug in my laptop to the TV when I want to use Boxee.
