What We’re Watching

I polled my fellow ZNF contributors for their current top three television shows. Not only are the networks and content diverse, but so are the methods used to acquire programming (in addition to the requisite DVR timeshifting). For example: I caught the first season of Dexter on DVD and most of Burn Notice via Hulu and iTunes, while Davis is catching up on Amazing Stories (from the 80s!) via Netflix Watch Now.

Mari

  • The Riches (FX)
  • Burn Notice (USA)
  • Lost (ABC)

Davis

  • Survivor (CBS)
  • Reaper (CW)
  • Amazing Stories (NBC)

Brent

  • Lost (ABC)
  • Reaper (CW)
  • The Office (NBC)

Dale

  • House (Fox)
  • Lost (ABC)
  • Battlestar Galactica (SciFi)

Dave

  • Burn Notice (USA)
  • Dexter (Showtime)
  • The Riches (FX)

So, what are your top three shows and how’re you watching?

  1. Lost (BitTorrent -> TiVo GoBack) [for better than SD quality and no commercials]
30 Rock (BitTorrent -> iPod) [no commercials]
Family Guy (BitTorrent -> iPod) [no commercials]

I do have Season Passes to these three shows, but rarely watch them via Now Playing.

  2. Lost
    Smallville
    Battlestar Galatica

via Tivo. Rarely, if ever do we watch live broadcast tv, if we can avoid it. Go Tivo Go!

  3. Lost (newsgroups, 720p version, popcornhour)
Battlestar Galactica (newsgroup, 720p version, popcornhour)
    Reaper (newsgroups, 720p version, popcornhour)

*Formula One & Rolex Series (MacBook Pro via Slingbox Pro)

(currently at school, in the dorms so I’m using P-Hour and a Tivo S2 here on the 40 channel cable system and employing 2 Slingboxes back home in LA on DirecTivos. if all else fails, Hulu works well. i’ve never used itunes for tv)

  4. LOST
    South Park
    The Office

All Via TiVoHD , however since ive been out of the country for 6+ weeks, its all been via my Slingbox…Which is great and all but I do miss my HD quality and surround sound some times…Laptops just dont give you that home theator feel!

  5. I realized I should have put Scrubs on there too (been catching up on Hulu). And I’m actually a season behind on Lost, for whatever that’s worth.

  6. Lost – DirecTV HD DVR
Battlestar Galactica – DirecTV HD DVR
ReGenesis – BitTorrent (doesn’t air in the US) streamed to TV via DivX Connected™ device (thanks Dave)

  7. Battlestar Galactica, via Tivo HD and sometimes on iPod via TTG

    House, via Tivo HD

    30 Rock, via Tivo HD

The first season of Dexter would have been on here, but the 2nd season sucked in my opinion. Waiting for Burn Notice Season 2, July I think…

  8. Now that Survivor is over for the season, here is my current top 3:

    1. Lost
    2. C.S.I.
    3. How I Met Your Mother

  9. I feel compelled to share four since none of them get mentioned above:

    1. Mad Men: AMCTV is replaying Season 1 in its entirety right now; catch it while you can, and before Season 2starts this summer. Gorgeous all-around in set & design + SO SO good.

    2. This American Life: A reason to get Showtime. Addicted to this radio show. Ear +eye candy on (HD)TV. Plus, Ira himself is also a huge TiVo fan, so what’s not to L-O-V-E?

    3. Flight of the Conchords: on HBO. This could be my reason to move to New Zealand and take TiVo with me, heheeh…

    4. Iconoclasts: I also discovered this show in its second season on Sundance. I’m catching up on the first season now. I’m sure everyone would enjoy (at the very least) the episode where they pair Mike Myers with Deepak Chopra for some deep dialog and big belly laughs.

I watch all of the above via good-old fashioned time-shifting on my brand-new TiVo HD, which I have set (under Options) to record 1st run and repeats to catch the previous seasons I missed.

Hmm… maybe I’ll have to share these in the upcoming TiVo newsletter, too. Thanks for asking, Dave!

  10. P.S. Your mom, Dave, has most excellent taste, with Project Runway on her list. That remains my most favorite perhaps of all time (okay, so I’m probably exaggerating), but since it’s not currently airing new episodes, I’m trying to forget it exists. Otherwise I go through major Tim Gunn withdrawls.

    xo

  11. Good to see you aren’t all hard techie work. My three

Lost (ABC) – I resurrected my VCR in time to record the season finale. Digital tv has breathed new life into the VCR, much nicer pic. I did a 3 month digital trial with Comcast, and lost PiP and VCR for the duration.

Boston Legal (ABC) – mostly from library loaners of seasons past.

Masterpiece Classics (OPB) – another good reason for a VCR, repeats run at 3 am.
