I don’t recall checking out the audio recording capabilities on the Gefen. Even if that unit doesn’t do Dolby Digital (which I don’t know), I’m sure Ambarella offers multiple chip options.

According to the specs on Hauppauge’s site the HD PVR will do Dolby Digital recording. If I remember from your review of the Gefen product it didn’t handle Dolby Digital, only stereo? Any ideas if Hauppauge has additional hardware or has just turned more features on?

We already know the chip manufacturer… It’s the guys that do some digital video cameras and powering the Gefen HD DVR: Ambarella

As soon as the chip that does the decoding is located on the board and its manufacturer and serial number are defined, let us know!
