Mac TiVoToGo: Roxio Responds

Earlier this week Roxio released Toast 9, the only officially supported TiVoToGo decryption method on the Mac. I raised some concerns that v8 still seemed to have difficulty with some content transcoding leading to audio/video sync issues and wondered if v9 corrected or inherited these issues. I’ve exchanged a few emails with TiVo and Roxio PR to learn more… Props to Mirka (Roxio) for openly responding in the comments:

We did indeed believe that we had addressed all the sync issues in Toast 9 and were planning to issue an update for Toast 8 customers. Post launch, we have become aware that some problems persist. As a result, we are going through the process of acquiring the problematic files and working to resolve any remaining issues. We fully intend to continue to work through all the issues and update Toast 9 and Toast 8 customers as required. We are asking for Toast 9 customers’ assistance. If a Toast 9 customer has experienced sync issues, we ask that they email TivoFiles@roxio.com, as we would like to acquire and test the problematic file.

  1. I’m definetly regretting that I put Toast on my Xmas list. It simply does not work for TiVo oriented customers. Save your money and use tivodecoder plus visualhub.

    Toast burnt.

  2. Yeah, let’s hope they follow through with that update for Toast 8. I’m not holding my breath… but I’m also not about to spend $80 for it.

  3. I’m pretty disappointed by this. TivoToGo was THE reason why I bought Toast v8 a couple of months ago. I have a Series 3 and I have since discovered that not only is there the sync issue on Toast but if you want to offload the files to your computer, you cannot access them anymore from the TiVo because Roxio didn’t update the metadata necessary for browsing the files on the Mac over the network from the TiVo. This issue is apparently limited to Series 3 users since the Fall Update to those boxes, but it seems that Roxio was informed well before about the change. Now will this be fixed in a v8 update? Has it been fixed in v9? I doubt either. Can we get an answer from Roxio? Hat’s off to you for getting some reply on the sync issue.
The Windows PC users are getting a much better integration experience with their TiVo because TiVo does all the Windows software themselves.

  4. Mike, updates for v8 and v9 came out last week. Supposedly they resolve the AV sync issues. You may want to try them out and let us know? (I was on the road for work and haven’t had a chance to try it out yet with v8.)
