Don’t Buy These

Ugh. So much for impulse purchases. I wandered over to the AT&T store on Friday to pick up a stereo Bluetooth headset to use on occasion with my Blackjack, work Treo 700w now with A2DP, Macbook Pro, and Muziq. While the Southwing SA505 headphones are inexpensive ($60), have decent buttons, and seem relatively comfortable… the audio performance is just bad. Poor sound quality, all kinds of static, and drop outs if I turn my head – even within about 3′ of a device. These will be going back. A buddy of mine has had good luck with iLuv. Any other suggestions?

  1. I am looking for similar stereo bluetooth capabilities. I would recommend looking at the fit of the Jabra BT8010. I haven’t yet found them in a store to play with, but they are at the top of my list because you can convert them between single ear and stereo operation.

  2. I think the Plantronics P590 are amazing. I have used them for a year now and strongly recommend them. They are one of those devices that have done all the small things correctly such as a USB charging cable, they can be plugged in as normal headphones if the battery runs out, etc.

  3. Hey Mari, Where’s my Motorola hook up on these? ;) Speaking of Plantronics, I’ve had good luck with my 510 for calling – it’s somewhat bulky and nerdy these days, but quality is very good.

  4. The Pulsar 590A’s from Plantronics are fantastic. They have the A2DP stereo software (they had it before most music devices even had it) as well as the AVRCP profile that allows you to use the track forward and track back, etc. controls on the headset instead of the music device you are using. Great if you’re walking around the house and want to change songs on the go…..

  5. Motorola S9’s all the way — to bad the MacBook Pro (or any Mac) won’t support Stereo Bleutooth…though there is a hack around
