An Experiment in Analog Placeshifting

Like many folks, I’ll be vacationing Memorial Day weekend – placeshifting myself to Copenhagen. I have no idea what we’ll be doing there, but the laptops and phones are staying home and cybercafés are off limits. (Not to mention, Boeing has killed in-flight WiFi.) The last time I was off the grid for more than 24hrs was a trip to Belize, September of ’03 – and even there I managed to sneak some Internet. So this could be interesting…

Though I may be disconnected, I won’t be entirely without tech. I am bringing two digital cameras: My personal Panasonic Lumix FX9 (in need of replacement) and a Fuji FinePix F30 loaner from Jeremy Toeman. I’ll never be a Thomas Hawk, but it’s probably time to upgrade to something a bit higher-end (and bulkier) like the upcoming Canon S5 IS.

  1. I failed! But it’s not really my fault… ;) The Marriott upgraded us to the executive level and there’s a lounge on this floor with food, drink, and Internet. Fortunately for me, I don’t check email from public workstations so my fix will be brief.
