Todd Perlmutter responded to my request for a custom GUI and has delivered the TiVo Converter Wrapper. TCW allows you to choose an encoding profile and queue up .tivo shows for conversion. Unlike TiVo Desktop, you can transcode multiple shows on demand and irrespective of folder location (and without mucking around in XML and the command prompt). Also unlike the TiVo Desktop, you can efficiently choose and run different profiles as needed — useful if you have multiple devices.
Great work, Todd! Now get started on adding settings for custom resolutions. ;)
Great work Todd! Quick question to anyone. Will this program also remove the DRM too? Then I can put the files on my other computer that doesn’t have TTG installed or is using DirectShow Dump still the best option? Thanks
Stupid question: Does this let you DE-DRM the files? Judging by the transcoding entries in the list, it does.
TiVo encryption is removed when you transcode via TiVo Desktop 2.3 or with Todd’s hack, though TiVo has informed me a non-visible watermark is added to the file.
So this works with or without TiVo Desktop Plus? Other than that it’s a great tool.
OK, I do want this to work, but after installing and trying to run the program. I get an error message “App failed to start b/c the applicaition config is incorrect. Reinstalling may help fix the problem.” I re-installed, re-booted and re-read the release notes. Nothing. Anyone else with the same issue?
Sonic – you have TiVo Desktop 2.3 installed and purchased the TiVo Desktop Plus upgrade? You need that for this to work.

I JUST WANT TO PUT MY KIDS TOONS ON A DVD TO PLAY IN THE VAN, PLEASE HELP… BECAUSE TIVO DESKTOP IS USELESS EXCEPT TO GET THE FILE TO MY PC. I GOT THE DIRECT SHOW FILE DUMP BUT I STILL CANT GET IT TO BURN TO A DVD WITH MEDIA PLAYER OR REAL PLAYER SO I CAN PUT IT IN THE VAN, ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
