Slingbox Player For Origami

The Sling folks have announced a custom Slingplayer for Microsoft’s new Ultra-Mobile PC platform, aka the Origami. The refreshed application is designed to accommodate the touch screen and unique resolutions of UMPC devices. No specific delivery dates for UMPC or Slingbox software have been announced.

Hmmm… these midget tablets might actually be useful.

Sling Media says: “The Ultra-Mobile PC represents an exciting new category of mobile devices and we are thrilled to be working with Microsoft to support this new product line,” said Blake Krikorian, co-founder and CEO of Sling Media, Inc. “Consumers are looking for differentiated, highly mobile product solutions as part of the digital lifestyle, and the combination of Slingbox and Ultra-Mobile PC delivers a portable and affordable solution to meet their entertainment needs.”

“We’re very pleased Sling Media has designed their SlingPlayer software to take advantage of this unique and highly mobile new PC category,” said Bill Mitchell, vice president of the Mobile Platforms Division at Microsoft Corp. “Ultra-Mobile PCs give consumers one more way to take their TV with them wherever they go, and Sling Media is helping more of our customers experience the freedom and flexibility this device offers.”

  1. You’d use the regular SlingPlayer for Windows software client and install this custom theme, which can be selected via the options.

Here’s a cut & paste of the directions:

Installing your skin is very simple. It happens in two steps: adding the skin to the library, and changing the current skin to your new one.

    1. Adding your skin to the Skins Library Follow these instructions to make your new skin appear in the Skin Library listing.

    1. Open SlingPlayer. You don’t have to connect to a Slingbox.
    2. Choose Player -> Options. The options dialog should appear.
    3. Go to the Skins tab.
    4. Click the “AddÂ…” button. This will open a standard file browse dialog box. It automatically filters out any non-skins files.
    5. Find your skin on your computer, then click “Open.”
    6. This will add the skin to your Skins Library (unless something is very wrong with the skin). It should be automatically listed and selected after the import completes.

    2. Changing the current skin

Follow these instructions to make your new skin the currently used (live) skin on SlingPlayer.

    1. Open SlingPlayer. You don’t have to connect to a Slingbox.
    2. Choose Player -> Options. The options dialog should appear.
    3. Go to the Skins tab.
    4. From the list at left, select the skin that you want to make live.
    5. Click “Apply.”
    6. You will be prompted to restart SlingPlayer. While you do not have to restart immediately, you will not see the change until you do restart SlingPlayer.
